Most registered dietitians advise diabetics to include dietary fiber in their diabetes diet. Why fiber is included as one of the recommended foods for diabetics to treat diabetes? It is because fiber has a main role to slow down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates that will prevent the raise of blood sugar.
Besides fiber, there are other several recommended foods for diabetics which are alpha-lipoic acid, omega 6 fatty acid, omega 3, artificial sweeteners and the last is complex carbohydrates as the main sources of energy for body. Alpha-lipoic acid is a vitamin which is needed to enhance the uptake of glucose. Omega 6 fatty acid is needed to protect your body from diabetes neuropathy and it can be found it at primrose oil, corn oil, walnut oil, sunflower oil, borage oil, blackcurrant oil and many more. Omega 3 is needed to protect diabetics from the hardening of arteries and the foods that contain omega 3 such as tuna, herring, salmon, mackerel, and fish oil supplement.
The last but the most important recommended food for diabetics is complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are the main sources that provide energy for body contain high fiber and you can find complex carbohydrates at cereals, grains such as oats and millet, legumes, beans, peas, beet cooked, potato sweet, lentils, vegetables and fruits.
